I had a great time visiting the Gwangju Royal Ceramic Festival this year. The atmosphere was lively and rich with tradition — from the royal guard parade to the beautiful displays of handmade ceramics. It was fascinating to see how these pottery techniques, dating back to the Joseon Dynasty, are still used today in everyday life. There were plenty of things to explore, including workshops and activities. However, I think these could have been even better with clearer information about where, when, and how to join them. I was especially excited about the ceramic workshop, but it was a bit disappointing as we couldn’t fully try it hands-on by ourselves. Additionally, having a more fluent translator during some of the explanations and performances would have helped international visitors appreciate the history and details more deeply. Overall though, it was a unique and enjoyable festival, and a great day trip from Seoul for anyone interested in Korean art and culture!
